VIDEO PRODUCTION

Client/Course: Visual Thinking and Writing
Project Desc: The assignment for this project was to draft an essay discussing a social issue, then create a companion video containing infographics of some form. I chose the topic of college food and health, and used actual food items, papers, and other materials to visually communicate statistics and facts. All of this was to support my central argument that college students are, generally speaking, very unhealthy.
Issues Encountered: For one reason or another, I was under an extreme forty-eight (48) hour time crunch, during which time I had to research the topic, draft the essay, and create the video. This, as one would expect, was a very stressful experience. Additionally, even under the time constraints, became very overambitious, and tried to up the video production immensely, which cost valuable time.
Solution: In this case, the very small window of time that I had actually worked to my benefit. Rather than making an extravagant, high-budget production, I scaled down my scope and vision, which helped me to create a low-fi aesthetic which helped communicate my information in a creative and visually interesting way.
Skills: This project required intermediate writing and video directing skills, as well as a basic understanding of video editing principles and software.
